OSU · Friday + Saturday nights

Know tonight
before you go.

A decision, not another feed.

Niighty is built for the moment before you leave — not for scrolling after midnight. Three steps, one answer: where is worth going tonight.

  1. Open the map

See the bars, clubs, and parties around OSU in one place. The map is the front door, not a timeline.

  2. See live crowd and vibe

One-tap reports from people there show how full it is and whether it is worth going. Pre-heat and weekend context sit in their own lanes.

  3. Decide in under 30 seconds

Pick the place that fits tonight. No group-chat polling, no guessing from a flyer, no five-app shuffle.

Three signals. Kept separate.

Most popularity scores blend everything together. Niighty does not. A page view is not a crowd, and last weekend is not tonight.

Live layer

Now.

People at the venue leave a one-tap crowd report — Dead, Normal, Busy, or Packed — plus a vibe: Skip, Worth It, or Must Go. This is the only layer that colors the map.

Answers
Should I go now?
Freshness
Strongest in the first 30 minutes. When reports go stale, the venue shows no live status.
Weight
Highest. Big status, map color, and a timestamp.

Pre-heat layer

Before.

Page views and RSVPs become soft labels about early interest. Think “plans are forming” — a warm signal before the room fills, never a crowd level.

Answers
What are people eyeing tonight?
Freshness
Hourly. Shown with a time window, never as attendance.
Weight
Soft and warm. Smaller than live, and never colored like a crowd.

Views and RSVPs, last hour.
Warm label — not a crowd level.

History layer

Usually.

Weekend patterns from past reports, written as a plain-language summary. It tells you what normal looks like here — quiet context, not a live status.

Answers
What is this place usually like?
Freshness
Updated weekly. Plain text summaries at launch.
Weight
Neutral gray. Context only, never used to fill a live gap.

Weekend summary

“Usually busiest Sat 10–11 PM”Based on the past 3 weekends

Neutral gray, never a live color.

Crowd levels, in plain language.

Color belongs to the live layer alone. Every level is also written as a word, so color is never the only cue.

  • DeadEmpty or nearly empty.
  • NormalA steady crowd.
  • BusyFilling up.
  • PackedAt capacity.
  • No live dataNo fresh report. Gray hollow marker.

Location is proof, not a leash.

Niighty needs a little context to tell you what is happening tonight. It does not need to follow you around to do it.

Read the privacy policy

Foreground checks by default.

When you open the app, a fresh location helps show nearby venues and can confirm that a crowd report came from the venue. It verifies the report; it never becomes a crowd signal. Optional on-site reminders, if you enable them, may use background location to prompt a report — off by default. Deny location and the map still opens, though live crowd status may not appear.

Friends are off by default.

Location sharing is per friend and opt-in. Friends see your display name, a venue name, and “x minutes ago” — never your coordinates, and never a trail of where you have been.

Keep the minimum. Delete the rest.

We keep one last-venue record, not a location history. Raw crowd reports and raw venue views are deleted after 30 days. Deleting your account cascades your personal data.

Precise location is never for sale.

No sale of precise location. No coordinates in the friends layer. No history layer standing in for live data. The privacy policy spells out every category we collect and why.

Beta · not yet open

Coming soon to iOS.
TestFlight first.

Niighty is being built now. The first TestFlight invites will go to OSU students, before any App Store release.

When the beta opens, the invite link will be posted on this page. There is no public sign-up before then.

Questions, answered before the group chat starts.

What OSU students usually ask about the beta, the signals, and location.

What is Niighty?

A pre-night decision app for OSU students. Niighty shows what is happening at nearby bars, clubs, and parties on Friday and Saturday nights so you can choose where to go in under 30 seconds.

Is Niighty available now?

Not yet. Niighty is coming soon to iOS, starting with a TestFlight beta for OSU students. There is no public download or sign-up on this page yet.

How do I get into the TestFlight?

Invites will go to OSU students first. When the beta opens, the invite link will be published on this page. You will need an iPhone and Apple’s TestFlight app to join.

What do the crowd levels mean?

Dead means empty or nearly empty. Normal means a steady crowd. Busy means filling up. Packed means at capacity. The live layer uses green, yellow, orange, and red in that order, and always shows the word as well as the color.

How does Niighty keep reports honest?

Reports are tied to an account, can be checked against a foreground location near the venue, and are rate-limited. New accounts and reports that cannot be verified carry less weight. You cannot report the same venue over and over in a short window.

What happens when there is no live data?

The venue shows “No live data yet” and a gray hollow marker. We do not fill the gap with pre-heat or weekend history, because neither one tells you what is happening right now.

Can my friends see where I am — and do you sell my location?

Friend location sharing is off by default. If you turn it on for a specific friend, they see your display name, the venue name, and how long ago it was updated — never your coordinates or a location history. Niighty does not sell precise location or personal information.

Where does Niighty work?

The MVP is built for OSU, starting with venues around campus. There is no second campus at launch.

Do I need to be 18?

Yes. Niighty is for adults 18 and older and is not directed to minors.

How do I delete my account?

When the app is live, account deletion will be available in the app’s settings and will cascade your personal data. Until then, you can email privacy@niighty.app with questions. The privacy policy explains what is deleted and what anonymized aggregates may remain.
